Adding Lighting to Your Facility

The lighting you choose for a shop or other building with high ceilings can significantly impact the area. Not all lighting is good in these situations, but some LED high bay lights are designed to be installed overhead and effectively provide a large amount of light to the work area.

Benefits Of LED Lights

An LED high bay light system can provide more light than some standard lights because you can adjust the LEDs to put out a specific amount of light very easily. Many LED lighting systems come with controllers that allow you to brighten or reduce the lights as needed, and even when set at the highest output levels, they draw very little electricity.

This makes the LED lighting system a good fit for many businesses and can help reduce energy costs significantly over the year. That cost reduction can be critical for a small business and is an excellent way to reduce the companies carbon footprint, no matter what size operation you have.

LED lights also run cooler, so if you have a building where heat is a concern, you may be able to reduce the temperature in the building by changing your lights to LED high bay lights. In a warm climate, that slight reduction could be enough to take some strain off your air conditioning or cooling systems and reduce that cost a small amount as well.

High Bay Lights

A high bay light is intended to be mounted above the work area and is often placed on the trusses or as high as possible in the space. The lights need to produce enough light to be effective from that height, so when you are considering converting to LED lights, it is critical that the LED high bay light has the rating to be used at the height you need.

Not all high bay lights are the same, so working with an electrician to choose the lights is often a good idea. LED high bay lights can be round, square, or rectangular, and the placement of the lights will affect the amount of light they provide in the space.

If you are not sure what type of lighting would be best for your space, having an electrician or light company do a lighting survey can help. The survey will look at the existing lights and identify the areas where the new lights should be placed. The type of lights and the power required will also be determined during the survey so that the electrician or light service can install new lighting that meets your needs.
